Services
I offer a broad spectrum of photography related
services. Please take a moment to consider how I may
serve you:
- Locations: Central
downtown Denver and the Thornton / Northglenn
area.
- Portraits:
- Individual or small group portraits up to
about four people
- Primarily outdoor shoots (I don't have a
studio)
- My camera: Olympus 7.5Mp Dslr with an
excellent portrait lens.
- Lighting: natural with fill flash
(bracket mounted, bounce).
- Posing: Do you hate
posing? Me too. I've developed my own unique
system (Wild Iris Centering) - designed primarily for
working with models, but if you are interested, I would
be glad to walk you thru this process (takes as little
as five minutes). I incorporate a
brief set of centering exercises (involving
breath, centering, grounding, relaxing, etc) that
I use to guide subjects into a relaxed comfort zone
that allows them to express themselves more
naturally.
- Non-traditional: although I take
traditional
portraits, I prefer non-traditional
approaches; capturing who people are - candid
captures of people in their element (see editorial below).
- Work Related (head-shots, portfolio,
etc)
- Examples of
my work.
- What I will
charge: In most cases, participants
will be able to go to WildIrisDigital.com/myphotos
and download smaller image files (for
personal / portfolio use) for free and also
have the option to download high resolution
photo files of those same photos for a very
reasonable fee (again, licensed only for
non-commercial, personal / portfolio use).
For more information on costs, please visit
my Pricing
page.
- Events:
- Weddings - I'm not a wedding
photographer. This is a very specialized area
of photography of which I have neither the
equipment or experience and, to be honest, I
don't want the responsibility. Still, I am
open to being enlisted as a second shooter. It's not
unusual for a wedding photographer to bring
in one or more "second shooters" because
these can be big projects and he/she can't be
everywhere at once. If you like my work, discuss
with your wedding photograopher the possibility of
adding me as a second shooter.
- Other than weddings, the sky's the limit
(ie: sky diving is out!).
- Athletic
- Party
- Outdoor & Indoor
- Civic / Community
- Reunion
- Performance
- Rallies: political, enthusiasts, etc
- Car Shows
- Farm, Ranch, Industrial Exhibitions, Trade
Shows; bring me in as an official photographer to document your program.

- Pet Photography (also
domesticated stock):
- Let me speak frankly: For most of my life
I've been very animal
friendly; enjoyed being around pretty
much every kind of creature (snakes, dogs,
cats, horses, cattle / long-horned steers,
buffalo, wild and domesticated, spiders, ....
well, I think you get the idea. My best
friend was an old australian sheard mix. But,
.... although a part of me likes animals;
another part of me (the older wiser me)
doesn't want to get scratched, bit, kicked or
even threatened
with bodily harm. So, I will only decide to
accept Pet Photography assignments on a case
by case basis.

- Working with Models:
- Wild Iris
Centering - Do you feel a little
nervous in front of the camera? awkward? Or,
are you just looking for new techniques to
add to your skill set? I've coalesced decades
of disciplines I've experienced into a system
I've named Wild Iris Centering. The system
incorporates principles such as posture,
breath, centering and grounding. Please take
a moment to explore how using this optional approach can
get us better photographs: Wild Iris Centering
- I hire you TfCD: From time to time I will
seek out model talent for various projects.
Sometimes I will need models to practice new
photography techniques and test new
equipment. Other times I will need models for
creative projects. These projects will
generally be projects that I do not
anticipate any real income from (though I
remain hopeful). This is not to say that I
won't, from time to time, attempt to create
photos that may generate income, but - even
in those instances - such income is far from
guaranteed. I do not have a budget to pay for
these types of projects, so I will sometimes
advertise for models willing to shoot TfCD
(Time for CD / their time for a photo CD
instead of monetary compensation). I will
license these photos to the model for their
personal and portfolio use only. I will
expect models who accept such gigs to demonstrate their
abilities as professional models; to follow
direction; to work as though you were getting
payed in dollars instead of a CD. I expect
the same of myself. This is good practice for
both parties - to demonstrate professional
qualities; preparation for the times when we
are paid to work.
- You hire me TfCD: From time to time I
will be very open to working for a model on
their project. I will do my best to shoot the
project the way you want. Traditionally, all
photography license rights belong to the
photographer and, in this case, that is my
payment. You will have your photo CD which,
in this case, contains your creative vision.
We can negotiate a mixed variety of
compensation schemes including: changes to
licensing / usage agreements, cash
(cash from you - remember
you are hiring me), etc.
- I have a paying gig: I will do my best to
offer you a fair and appropriate share of the
earnings.
- You have a paying gig: First,
congratulations. So, you are looking for a
photographer? Contact
me; brief explanation (when, where, who,
what); describe your job offer and pay you
are offering.
- From my perspective, models and
photographers share an almost symbiotic
relationship; without each other there
wouldn't be much - if any work. I see my
role, as a photographer working with a model,
as one of support. I want to be able to offer
my support to models to achieve their goals.
I hope the feeling is reciprocal. I don't
believe in short-cuts; yes people get lucky,
but- when it comes right down to it - I
believe the best way for all of us to achieve
our goals is thru plain old hard work! If you
can show up (good days and bad), on time,
ready to work (with all of your prep - hair,
makeup, clothing), follow direction,
w/positive can-do attitude - I believe you
have a path to success. If I show up, early,
my gear prepped; as many details worked out
as possible; my creative energies at the
ready to make wonderful images - I see that
as my path to our mutual success.
- Examples of my
work.
- Editorial Photography:
- What is it?: "Editorial refers to the
market where the images will be used --
primarily books, magazines, and newspapers --
and, to a lesser extent, to the style of
photography that appears in these venues. We
use the term editorial to distinguish it from
other markets like corporate, advertising,
general commercial, or fine art. Most
editorial outlets offer a fair amount of
creative freedom, but also extremely low
budgets compared to other venues."
- EditorialPhoto.com
- Do you need photos for a story you would
like to tell? Someone or something you'd like
to document?
- This is one of my favorite
categories.
- Examples of
my work.
- The amount I
charge will depend on a number of
factors - in addition to how the photos will
be used - including the amount of time I
spend, distance I travel and other
considerations. For more information on
costs, please visit my Pricing page.
- Art, Graphics and Photo
Editing:
- Let me start out by saying that I am not
a graphics artist. I did not complete a
degree in art. I am not a master photo
editor. Having gotten that out of the way, I
would like to propose that although I've had
no formal training in these areas, I feel
that I have sufficient skills to provide, in
many instances, a quality product.
- You can find examples of my photography as art on my
Art page.
- You can find examples of my Graphics and Photo Editing on
my graphics
page.
- Photo Editing: I can often repair or
improve digital photos (remove blemishes,
noise, unwanted items, etc); crop out
subjects and place them in new images with
different backgrounds; create collages; add
designs and more.
- Graphics Work: I can't draw! But I do
work with a very powerful open source
graphics editing program called GIMP that
enables me to create some pretty amazing
graphics - even at my less-than masterful
level. Been thinking about a project?
Drop me a
line.
- What I will
charge: The amount I charge will
depend on a number of factors - in addition
to how the images will be used - the amount
of time I spend. I generally charge $25 per
hour with a one hour minimum. For more
information on costs, please visit my
Pricing page.
- Web Design:
- I built this website.
- I specialize in Brochure Web Sites
- I don't think the term Brochure Web Site
is well known. Please
read more about Brochure
Web Sites here.
- I build quick loading standards compliant
- no bells and whistles - brochure websites.
I don't work with e-commerce, data base
content management applications (for example:
Mysql); no music, videos, guest books,
comments, user logins / registrations, e-mail
subscription, or other forms.
- If all you need is a simple, affordable,
clean lean web presence, please visit my web
design site:
WildIrisDigital/WebDesign
I reserve the right to decline any job
proposal without explanation - for any number of reasons
(travel, personalities, subjects or subject matter,
personal comfort level, safety, weather, too complex
logistically, equipment limitations, etc). Please don't
be offended - life's too short and there are a plethora
of other photographers out there that will be glad to
accept your assignment.
What's a Brochure Web Site?
The name comes from the tri-fold, color brochure that
depicts information on a single sheet of glossy
paper.
The Brochure Web Site and the glossy brochure share a
common purpose. They both provide interested parties with
some basic information about your company, group or
organization and what products and/or services you
provide for sale; what you are all about.
A Brochure Web Site is often less expensive than a
glossy brochure and, it does a much better job (Not to
mention lasting a lot longer; easier to update and
correct and always available - just a click away.).
- It opens your potential viewership to the entire
world. (How many glossy brochures would that
take?)
- Without a web site, your business or group is
limited to its locality unless you invest in very
expensive, heavy advertising.
- For niche markets, it sometimes is the only way
to reach a client base large enough to sustain the
company.
- With a web site, your small business, group or
organization can reach not only anyone in your
community, but anyone in the world
- Lends credibility to who you are and what you are
about.
- It demonstrates that you are no stranger when it
comes to the world wide web. You're not being left
behind.
- People frequently will deal with a company that
has a web site before they deal with a company
without a web site.
- The yellow pages have
gone online. Can you see the advantage you have when
viewers can instantly get more information about you
with a simple click? Try doing that with the old
glossy brochure.
Everything a brochure can do (photos and descriptions)
- a brochure web site can do better.
Provide everything your visitor needs: company name,
your mailing address, your shipping address, telephone
number, mobile (cell) number and fax numbers; e-mail,
points of contact; answers to frequently asked questions;
map and directions.
A small, fast concise web site is perfect for the
small business or organization.
- Beautiful, glitzy web sites can be
expensive.
- Some fancy web sites are so full of glitter that
they are slow to load and visitors can't find what
they're looking for when they do finally load; people
simply go to another web site that loads faster and
is easier to navigate (like this one).
